Chennai Super Kings secured a comfortable seven-wicket victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad in a gripping encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Devon Conway’s third half-century in a row proved to be the backbone of the chase, as he led the charge and sent the home crowd into a frenzy. His performance has caused some changes in the Orange Cap list. Â
Conway leads the chase
Kiwi opener Devon Conway has surpassed Ruturaj Gaikwad to become Chennai Super Kingsâ highest run-scorer this season. Conway is now the 4th highest run-getter in the Orange Cap list with 258 runs in 6 games at an impressive average of 51.60. He has pushed Jos Buttler down to the 5th spot and has taken his place in the Orange Cap list.Â
Conway led the chase for Chennai Super Kings tonight with 77 runs in 57 balls. He remained not out in the chase of 135 runs and smashed 12 fours and 1 six. This was Conwayâs third fifty of the season. He is striking at 144.13 this season.
Gaikwad showed a glimpse of getting back into form
A huge positive that came about for Chennai Super Kings after tonightâs encounter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad was that Ruturaj Gaikwad seemed to be getting back in his zone. Gaikwad started the tournament on a high note and was wearing the Orange Cap for quite a while but he seems to have lost his touch in the last 2-3 games.
Nonetheless, he scored 35 runs in 30 balls and put up a partnership of 87 runs with Devon Conway for the first wicket. This partnership laid the foundation for CSKâs chase and was the highest partnership of the game. Gaikwad is now at the 6th place on the Orange Cap list. This is a significant jump for the right-handed batter considering that he was in the 10th place yesterday and risked slipping out of the top 10.
