Orange Cap Holder of IPL 2023: Updated After CSK vs DC Match 55

Chennai Super Kings delivered a dominant all-round performance, defeating the Delhi Capitals by 27 runs at the iconic Chepauk Stadium. Shivam Dube top-scored with 25 runs, while MS Dhoni’s explosive cameo of 20 off 9 balls added crucial momentum. Deepak Chahar’s exceptional seam bowling dismantled the Capitals’ top order, claiming both openers early on. Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja applied immense pressure as the Capitals stumbled to 25 for 3.

Youngster Matheesha Pathirana finished strong, sealing a comprehensive victory for CSK and boosting their net run rate. With 15 points in 12 matches, Chennai Super Kings are on the verge of securing a top-four position and have a chance to secure a top-two spot with another win. The Delhi Capitals‘ playoff hopes are dwindling as they languish at the bottom with a maximum potential of 14 points.

However, not much has changed on the Orange Cap list after tonight’s encounter.

Conway and Ruturaj fail to go big

In a game where 35 was the highest score, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway, CSK’s stellar openers failed to go big and give CSK a good start. While Conway scored just 10 runs off 13 balls, his partner Gaikwad scored 24 off 18 balls. Nonetheless, both batters have managed to hold down their existing positions in the Orange Cap race.

Conway is currently in the 4th position in the Orange Cap race. The Kiwi batter has 468 runs in 12 games at an average of 52.00 and is CSK’s best batter this season. It is also worth noting that Conway has hit 55 fours and 13 sixes this season.

Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad in in the 6th position in the Orange Cap race. Once the Orange Cap holder, Gaikwad has slipped in recent times owing to a string of low and average scores. However, with just 2 league games remaining for CSK, Gaikwad would be looking forward to getting back in his old colors and getting CSK off to flying starts.
