One has to prove himself to play World T20- Virat Kohli

On Sunday in an interview, Virat Kohli said that players have to prove themselves in a short span of time to be able to get shortlisted for the ICC World T20 2020 scheduled to be held next year.

Captain speaks on preparation

The Men in Blue, after thrashing West Indies are now busy with the T20 series against South Africa at home. The Indian team will play around 30 T20I matches before the World Cup and the preparations have already begun. Kohli opined on the same and said, “We are very clear. It is not that anyone will get 30 chances. Even when I came in the team, I didn’t think I will get 15-20 games and I knew I will mostly get chances in three to five games and I have to prove myself. One will get suppose five chances and he will have to prove himself. That is the level we are playing at. As the team management has that mindset, the individual should also have the same.”

The team focusing on both tournaments

The captain also added that to find out the right balance is a delicate thing. That’s why the management is keen to utilize the 30 opportunities before the mega event and so it is important to decide how much time each individual gets to prove and make the cut. When he was asked whether the roadmap for the T20 World Cup starts with this series against South Africa he insisted that the team is focusing on T20 World Cup and World Test Championship. “We feel both the T20Is and the Test championship are in our focus as both of them are milestones and that is why youngsters are being pushed in from time to time as it is important to settle the team combination because we have to figure out the guys who will take the team forward.”
