A throwback post by the Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli gave birth to speculation related to MS Dhoni’s retirement. Apart from India’s team announcement for Test series against South Africa, this is what kept Indian cricket media busy on Thursday. This escalated so much that the chief selector of BCCI and the wife of MS Dhoni had to come out to deny the reports.
The plot
Virat Kohli shared a photo from 2016 T20 World Cup and described it as ‘game he can never forget’. The match saw a match-winning stand between Kohli and Dhoni against Australia. This triggered huge speculation over Dhoni’s retirement from international cricket. Moreover, reports started doing rounds of Dhoni holding a press conference at 7 pm on Thursday. It was kind confirmation to the speculations initiated by Virat’s post.
Later during the team announcement for Test series against South Africa, MSK Prasad was asked about the same to which he said that he had no such official news about the same. In fact, Sakshi Dhoni took to Twitter and wrote, “Its called rumours !” This cleared all the air and Dhoni fans got relief from anxiety.

Meanwhile, since Thursday morning people started making emotional posts on social media and asking Dhoni to not retire. Chennai Super Kings official Twitter page was not behind the race as well. They came with a famous quote from Game of Thrones, a web series and wrote, “Not 7day”. The actual quote was “not today” and Arya Stark was taught to say the same by her instructor to the God of death. Seven is the jersey number of the former Team India skipper, MS Dhoni. So CSK improvised the quotation a bit and did not give any further explanation to the same. It was quite evident that they referred to Dhoni’s retirement.
