Initially in the match, Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first. While bowling in the first innings, Bangladesh bowlers played well. Rishad Hossain got the first breakthrough after dismissing Ibrahim Zadran in 18 runs. After that, Mustafizur Rahman sent away Azmatullah Omarzai. Rishad Hossain took two other crucial wickets and restricted Afghanistan to 115 runs in 20 overs. But their batting lineup struggled in the second innings. As a result of it, they faced a defeat.

While reflecting in the game, Shanto said, “I think we bowled really well, we did lots of good things but as a batting unit, we made poor decision especially in the middle overs and that’s what cost us today.”

Later he added, “The plan was to go hard in the first six overs, if we lost early wickets, the plan was to bat normally, but that didn’t happen and the middle-order couldn’t execute.”

Reflecting on the Tournament:

In this tournament, Bangladesh performed well. In the group stage, they played four matches and registered victory in three of them. But they lost their form in the Super Eight stage. In three scheduled games, they faced defeats in all of them. While focusing on the tournament, the Bangladesh captain said, “ The whole tournament we have bowled really well, both the pacers and the spinners, especially Rishad was great, the fast bowlers also did really well. Also, as a fielding group, we did well.”

But he calls for some improvements in the team. While talking about this, he said, “The batting needs to improve, our top-order didn’t perform well. It can happen, the ball got wet and that’s a good thing. As I said, we didn’t execute well with the bat and made a lot of wrong decisions.”
