Muralitharan and Warne told me that I shouldn’t change myself – Rashid Khan

The newly appointed captain of Afghanistan cricket team Rashid Khan has been performing exceptionally well. His intention is to keep maintaining the good bowling, deliver the best without coming under the pressure of taking wickets.

Rashid Khan on his bowling

When Rashid Khan was announced as the captain of Afghanistan cricket team across all formats, a few raised their eyebrows. Whether such young cricketer would be able to handle the pressure was a million-dollar question. But the way he has been performing along with captaining the side proved his mettle. While asked about the same and his bowling style he said, “I never brought any difference in my bowling in any format. I try to do what I am capable of. I don’t want to bring any changes to my bowling. If I bring a bit of change, I think it will affect my bowling.”

About performing well in Test cricket he explained that he was always ready for the format and prepared himself accordingly. “I always had one thing in mind in the Test match, that there will be a time when I won’t get a wicket for 25 overs. There will be a time when I get three wickets in one over. Rather than putting extra pressure on myself, I should be mentally ready for this sort of thing.”

How Muralitharan and Warne helped

The future of Afghanistan cricket got tips from Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne. He revealed that talking to them helped him succeed in Tests too.”I asked Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne, superstars of Test cricket, what should my mindset be in a Test match. They both told me that I shouldn’t change myself, and be cool and calm in every situation.”

The legends suggested Rashid to focus on the line and length of bowling and not try to reduce his speed. “They said that I should just focus on bowling in the right line and length, rather than bring down my speed. They said that the quicker you bowl, it deceives the batsmen.”
