Dhoni’s retirement in doubts

Dhoni last appeared for Team India in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup against New Zealand. His form and approach in the tournament attracted a good amount of criticism and the shocking exit of the team from World Cup added fuel to it. Hence, it was assumed that the former Indian captain would announce his international retirement after the end of the global tournament at the soonest. But nothing such has been done yet.

With a lot of experts talking about Dhoni’s retirement almost every day, his extension of leaves will certainly give birth to a new set of speculation. The Indian team seem to leave it with the man himself but a BCCI source reportedly mentioned earlier of Dhoni not being the immediate part of the dressing room and helping in the transition process with Rishabh Pant. On the other hand, stalwarts like Sunil Gavaskar said, “But his overall presence on the field will be calming for the captain because the captain gets the benefit of his views. So that is a huge plus. But I do believe the time has come.”
