MS Dhoni’s Childhood Coach Keshav Banerjee Talks About his Retirement

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s retirement speculations often make headlines nowadays. But the man in question has maintained silence throughout the period since July 2019. Dhoni’s childhood coach Keshav Banerjee on Thursday spoke about the issue and told that he would inform everyone before retiring.

Dhoni ‘not’ retiring

Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been out of action since India’s exit from the World Cup in 2019. India lost the semi-final match against New Zealand and Dhoni’s batting approach was highly criticised. Since the day Dhoni has remained absent from cricket scene. His comeback was due in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. Dhoni accordingly began training with the Chennai Super Kings franchise just before the pandemic hit India.

Dhoni has not said a word about his comeback or retirement but the fans and experts have always spoken about this. Meanwhile on Wednesday when #Dhoniretires started trending on Twitter, Sakshi Dhoni, the wife of MS Dhoni, took to her Twitter account and rubbished such claim. “Its only rumours! I understand Lockdown has made people mentally unstable! #DhoniRetires… Get a life! (sic).”

Dhoni’s coach vouches for his ward

On Thursday Dhoni’s childhood coach Keshav Banerjee told IANS that Dhoni would do a proper conference and share the news with all. “Dhoni is not the kind of person who will call up people and tell them ‘I am retiring’. He knows how to do it. When he will feel it is time, he will inform BCCI and call a proper press conference and do all the things that need to be done. Like he did when he called time on his Test career.”

He also added that Dhoni still has the game left in him and make a strong comeback in the T20 World Cup, even if it gets delayed for the COVID-19. “You don’t go by social media. There are many things that become ‘trends’ but end up as fake news. I don’t know why people are after Dhoni. I know him well and I can tell you, he will let all of us know when he thinks he has to retire,” Banerjee added.
