MS Dhoni ‘unlikely’ to commentate in pink-ball Test

A story yesterday suggested that Mahendra Singh Dhoni could be seen as a guest commentator in the pink-ball Test at Eden. But recent news from PTI rejects the speculations.

According to the IANS information, Sourav Ganguly had proposed an amazing plan for the pink-ball Test. All Indian Test captains were to be present at the ground and also appeared as the guest commentator.” All captains at the ground along with (Virat) Kohli and the rest of the team as well as the dignitaries line up for the anthem. Captains appear on commentary as guests through the day to recollect their favourite moments from India‘s Test history. Down memory lane segments recorded with individual captains are played on the big screen at the ground in breaks Day 4 onwards.”

This obviously meant that captain cool Dhoni could make a new inning and wear the hat of commentator as well. The story went viral and fans were all over the social media.

But a new a recent news from PTI suggests something exactly the opposite. He is unlikely to make his commentary debut in the Day-Night Test between India and Bangladesh and sources close to the former India captain revealed the same to PTI. “There is no way Dhoni can commentate,” a source close to the player told PTI replied when the person was asked about Dhoni’s possible to go behind the mic during the historic pink-ball Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

As per the existing constitution, Dhoni’s role as a commentator has a possibility of raising a conflict of interest issue. Post India’s semi-final exit from the 2019 World Cup Dhoni has been absent from the on-field action. News of his retirement often do the rounds but even nothing regarding that has been clarified by the veteran. Moreover, the chief selector MSK Prasad clearly stated that Indian team already moved on from Dhoni.
