MS Dhoni Admits of Being Slow Initially

Mahendra Singh Dhoni criticized his own innings as slow in the post-match media interaction. Dhoni also opined that at 40 he cannot guarantee his performance on field.

Dhoni on his own innings

MS Dhoni won the 200th match for Chennai Super Kings as the captain of the side. He was a happy man after the match but went on to criticize slow start to his own innings. Dhoni came to bat when Chennai Super Kings were scoring at close to nine runs per over. Dhoni took six balls to get going and eventually ended with 18 off 16 balls. Dhoni himself spoke on the matter and said, “I thought we could have got more. The first six balls I played could have cost us in another game.”

He continued, “It’s true but when you’re playing, you don’t really want anyone to say he’s unfit. Performance is something that is not guaranteed. I was not guaranteeing performances when I was 24, can’t guarantee when I am 40.” “At least, if people can’t point fingers at me, saying he’s unfit, that will be a big positive for me. I have to keep up with the younger guys, They run a lot, they are very fast, it’s good to challenge them,” he added.

Dhoni on spinners

Chennai Super Kings spinners had a good time on the Mumbai track. The Royals were reduced to 95/7 from 87/2 to in a span of less than 4 overs. This might have raised a few eyebrows but the winning captain said, “It was spinning a bit, I don’t really mind Jos playing the reverse where it’s turning a bit. It’s important to have that sixth bowler, it always helps and it was stopping a bit for spinners. There was slightly less dew than usual. Glad we scored 188.”

Chennai Super Kings won two out of three of the matches so far. A confident unit is ready to face Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday in Mumbai.
