Moeen Ali claims Dhoni has a lot of Cricket left in him; ends up comparing him with Morgan

CSK’s star all-rounder Moeen Ali feels that the 2023 IPL may not be MS Dhoni’s last season. According to Moeen Ali, there should be no doubt that their captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni can still play in the league next year. Ali mentioned that Dhoni has been performing impressively in the nets, hitting the ball hard and showing no signs of slowing down, despite being 41 years old.

“He could definitely play again next year. The way he’s playing, I don’t think it’ll be his batting that stops him from playing, even if it’s in two, three years’ time. I wasn’t surprised at how he played against Rajasthan. I’ve been watching him in the nets, and he’s been batting unbelievably well. It’s just amazing to see from somebody at that age. It’s not easy when you come in so late – people forget that a lot of the time, but that’s what makes him so good at his role,” Moeen told ESPNcricinfo in an interview.

Eoin Morgan and Dhoni similar?

Moeen Ali also drew comparisons between two legendary cricket captains, Eoin Morgan, and MS Dhoni. Having played extensively under both captains, Moeen noted that the two leaders share striking similarities in terms of their composed demeanor, regardless of the situation on the field.

In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Moeen highlighted the only discernible difference between the captaincy styles of Dhoni and Morgan, noting that the latter relies heavily on data to inform his decisions. Despite this divergence, Moeen clearly holds both captains in high regard, likely due to their impressive track records and leadership abilities.

“They’re very similar in how clear and calm they are, but also very different. Their interests and all that are very different. The biggest difference? MS does most of his captaincy on gut feel, on the day. It could be a bit like that with Morgs too, but he was also very data-driven. But they’re both so calm. In terms of mannerisms, they are very, very, very similar.”, Ali further said in his interview.
