The Men in Blue secured a ravishing win against the Black Caps, in the semi-final match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma and Co after having won the toss posted a target of 398 runs, with New Zealand being halted with their chase at 327 runs. With Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer amassing magnificent centuries, India’s ace pacer Mohammad Shami took a brilliant and historical 7-wicket haul making him lead the charts for the highest wicket taker in the tournament. The right arm pacer also achieved an exceptional feat coming to his best bowling figures in the ODI World Cup.

The King, Virat Kohli yet again etched his name in the world record books, smashing his 50th ODI century, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to achieve the enormous feat. The team’s performance has been consistent throughout the game with their skipper, Rohit Sharma leading the team from the front and giving the type of start a team needs in order to dominate their position.

Hesson’s a spectacular predictor

Surprisingly, the developments in favour of India which made them win the semifinal against New Zealand was predicted way before by New Zealand Coach Mike Hesson. In an interview before the big match, Mike Hesson reiterated a number of facts among which some are: Virat Kohli will be smashing his 50th ODI century, India will won by a 70-run margin, New Zealand will be onto a big chase, Shami will get a 7-wicket haul. The extent of accuracy these predictions hold has left the fans in disguise assuming that all these contradictions came truest of the true.

Favouring New Zealand with the pitch

Reckoning the fact that the Wankhede pitch is actually lucky for the Kiwis, Hesson also remarked “I guess it’s a little bit of the David and Goliath scenario. Isn’t it? India have been through the tournament unbeaten and are in fine form with so many match- winners against a team that just keeps fronting up. The Wankhede is actually a good ground for New Zealand. If you are going to play India at any ground, Mumbai is not a bad one. I think our bowling attack will get a bounce there. So, therefore, if we get the bounce, we’ve got to take early wickets.”
