Mathew Hayden names his IPL 2023 Playing XI

The IPL 2023 has ended with a bang with Chennai Super Kings lifting the tile for the fifth time. Chennai won the match on the last ball needing 4 runs off the last ball. We saw a lot of high-scoring matches in this IPL. Australian legend Mathew Hayden picked his Playing XI for the IPL 2023.

Openers: Gill and Gaikwad

He went in with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill to open the innings. The Gujarat Titans’ greatest asset in the IPL 2023 has been Shubman Gill. He has 851 runs scored and has performed admirably during crucial moments for the squad. In Qualifiers 1 and 2, Gill scored runs to help the team advance to the championship. In the summit match, he got off to a good start as well and appeared to be a threat before MS Dhoni’s brilliant play sent him packing.

Gaikwad has played a crucial role in CSK’s success this season. In 16 games, he has scored 590 runs at a 43.38 average. In IPL 2023, the batsman has amassed four hundreds.

Middle Order: Faf, SKY, Cam Green

He then went with Faf, Suryakumar Yadav, and Cameron Green in the middle order. Throughout the competition, the RCB captain maintained consistency. In IPL 2023, Faf du Plessis scored 730 runs in 14 innings. He consistently served as the team’s reliable leader.

Suryakumar Yadav, a potent middle-order batsman for India, demonstrated in IPL 2023 why he is regarded as the best hitter in this format. Suryakumar Yadav was MI’s batting’s strongest asset during the competition. In 16 games, he scored 605 runs and contributed significantly for the club during pivotal moments. He merits a spot on the “Team of the Tournament” since he is without a doubt the greatest number three in the competition.

The towering Australian all-rounder Cameron Green proved he could be trusted on in crucial situations despite having limited prior T20 match experience. Over the course of the season, he scored 452 runs and claimed six wickets. Green showed he was a high performer, and his team relied on him in crucial situations.

Finishers: Jadeja, Dhoni

After a disappointing 2022 season, Jadeja appears to be back at the height of his abilities. MS Dhoni continues to turn to Jadeja when a wicket is required. He ended up with 20 wickets and a respectable economy of under eight. With him, Hayden named Dhoni as the wicketkeeper and the captain of the side. Dhoni did not have much to do with the bat, but he contributed with some crucial cameos with the bat. His keeping and captaincy was on the spot and proved to be decisive in crunch moments.

Bowlers: Rashid, Noor, Shami, Pathirana

The tournament’s superstar from Afghanistan has given everything for his side. With 27 wickets in the competition, Rashid Khan has excelled in his specialized field. In a few games where he played cameos in the lower order, he also performed a tremendous job with the bat.

In the first 13 games of his IPL career, Noor Ahmad has taken 16 wickets at an average of 23.06, giving just under 7.82 runs per over. Noor Ahmad was selected by the Ahmedabad franchise in the IPL Auction 2023 for Rs 30.00 Lac.

One of the cornerstones of the GT bowling lineup was the Indian pacer, Mohammed Shami.  Shami finished the competition with 28 wickets and was awarded the purple cap. With the new ball, Shami proved devastating throughout the competition and is unquestionably the team’s first-choice pacer.

The young Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheestha Pathirana has been a revelation for CSK throughout the competition. The CSK bowling appeared in disarray throughout the first few games since Matheesha Pathirana was not available for selection. But ever since he joined the squad, CSK’s death bowling has improved, and the team’s performance has changed significantly.
