Mark Wood Explains How Win Over India Will Give England Confidence

Mark Wood says that victory over India in the ongoing T20I series will give huge confidence to England. His side can definitely be benefitted from the triumph ahead of the T20 World Cup scheduled later in the year in India.

England pacer Mark Wood has been brilliant in both T20I matches, won by his side. England are currently leading the 5-match T20I series by 2-1 and expecting to seal another win to secure the series win. Wood thinks that it would be a ‘brilliant achievement’ for England who have remained unbeaten in their last eight T20I series can claim a series win against India.

Wood on England’s Win

“Brilliant achievement it will be to win against India in India. They are a top side; it will give us huge confidence going into the English summer and the World Cup being here, although we are trying a few different things and a few different rules for certain players.” He added in the virtual press conference, “It is a good opportunity when you put wins on the board as we did before the 50-over World Cup; it gives you confidence.”

Mark Wood has been effective to remove India’s top-order and after making a comeback from injury in the third game, he took three major wickets. He dismissed KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer conceding just 14 runs. However, he could not beat Indian cricket team captain. Virat Kohli went on to register the highest score from the Indian side and remained unbeaten on 77.

Wood on Kohli

Mark Wood acknowledged the brilliance of Kohli. “If you allow good players to get in, he got in and he took his time and he caught up with it in the end. He is a fantastic player, but we were pleased with the score we kept them too. I will take the battering in the end for the early wickets which I got.”

When he was asked about the runs, he gave to Virat Kohli, he opined, “We have a plan as a group. Chris Jordon is an experienced bowler. We decide on the ball we are going to bowl and then you try to execute that. The plan was good but the execution was wrong. On a couple of balls, I felt I executed what I wanted to bowl, but Kohli just played good shots and good players are allowed to do that. The first six he hit off me, was a hell of a shot.”
