The match was being played at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent, as West Indies is the co-host for the tournament. Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring 115/5 in the first innings of the match. Despite a low score, the Afghanistan team restricted Bangladesh to a total score of 105 with all their wickets gone. Afghanistan is now entering the semifinals alongside India, England and South Africa.

“We made poor decisions..” says Najmul

After losing the match against Afghanistan, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has opened up in his post match ceremony and admitted to the mistakes his batting unit made. However, the captain has also praised the bowlers for their performance.

“I think we bowled really well, we did lots of good things but as a batting unit, we made poor decision especially in the middle overs and that’s what cost us today. The plan was to go hard in the first six overs, if we lost early wickets, the plan was to bat normally, but that didn’t happen and the middle-order couldn’t execute.” Shanto said.

“The whole tournament we have bowled really well, both the pacers and the spinners, especially Rishad was great, the fast bowlers also did really well. Also, as a fielding group, we did well. The batting needs to improve, our top-order didn’t perform well. It can happen, the ball got wet and that’s a good thing. As I said, we didn’t execute well with the bat and made a lot of wrong decisions.” He added.

Playing XI for both teams:

Bangladesh (Playing XI): Litton Das(w), Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto(c), Towhid Hridoy, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Soumya Sarkar, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mustafizur Rahman.
