Born on December 11, 1991 Lukman Iqbal Meriwala represents Baroda in domestic cricket. This left-arm fast-medium Indian bowler made it to the headlines after finishing the 2013/14 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as the highest wicket taker with 21 wickets. His contribution helped Baroda win the trophy that year.
Since then, Meriwala has been around making his presence feel occasionally at the domestic level. However, he went on to finish the last Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as the second highest wicket taker with 15 wickets. He has gained experience through age-group cricket which has started showing impact on his performance. He was the key reason for Baroda’s advance to the final which they finally lose to Tamil Nadu. Meriwala’s 15 wickets came at an average of 13.26 and he maintained to bowl at economy rate of 6.52.

Meriwala also had a five-wicket haul against Chhattisgarh and also contributed with a key spell in the semi-final. In the semi-final he picked up three wickets for just 28 runs against Punjab including openers Prabhsimran Singh and Abhishek Sharma as well as the tail-ender Sandeep Sharma. There are not many left-arm Indian seamers at presence which is a great opportunity for Meriwala to shine. His rare trait can work as a blessing for him. In his career of 44 T20s he has taken 72 T20 wickets at an average below 15 and economy rate below 7. He has also represented Baroda in 17 first-class matches and 36 List- A games.
Meriwala was bought by Delhi Capitals ahead of Indian Premier League 2021 for the base price of Rs 20 lakh. After winning and losing one match each at the start of the season, Delhi Capitals decided to bring in Meriwala in their third match of IPL 2021 against Punjab Kings. He turned out to be little expensive on his debut but should be able to make a strong comeback in future given his ability.
