Look I am not possessive about where I play – Virat Kohli

Indian cricket team led by Virat Kohli is all set to take on Australia at home. The two teams are scheduled to play three ODIs in Mumbai (Jan 14), Rajkot (Jan 17) and Bengaluru (Jan 19). In the pre-match press conference, Kohli said that to accommodate all three available he will try to be flexible.

Kohli on the opening ‘trio’

KL Rahul’s prolific performance made him reclaim his name in the ODI squad of the Indian cricket team. Shikhar Dhawan has been doing well too. Rohit Sharma is omnipresent. Kohli considers all of them as assets of the team.

Ahead of Mumbai ODI, Kohli said, “Look, a guy in form is always good for the team. You obviously want to have the best players available and then chose from what the combination should be for the team. There might be a possibility that all three (Rohit, Shikhar, and Rahul) might play.”

Kohli hints at changing his batting slot

Now to make all three play the skipper is ready to come down the batting line-up as he is not possessive about any particular position. He added that a lot will depend on the balance the team is seeking on the field. He went on to add whilst asked about batting lower down the order, “Yeah, big possibility. I would be very happy to do so. Look I am not possessive about where I play. I am not insecure about where I bat.”

The high-profile captain then opined how he focus on getting the next lot ready. He said, “Being the captain of the team, it is my job to make sure that the next lot is also ready. A lot of the other people might not look at it that way, but your job as a captain is not only to look after the team right now but also to prepare a team that you leave behind when you eventually pass it onto someone else.”
