Hazlewood on Rohit Sharma

Australian Pacer Josh Hazlewood went on to praise India’s star opener Rohit Sharma in a recent conversation on the Cricket Connected Show on Star Sports. He explained that the style of Rohit Sharma’s game and with the ease he plays shots are the greatest strength of India’s deputy. “He’s got many. I think it’s just with how the ease that he plays, especially anything back of a length, anything short, just puts it away with such ease. It’s just an area in which he gets better, I think. He never looks to bludgeon the ball, just pure class, and elegance. His records, especially in white-ball cricket, is phenomenal.”

Although Rohit Sharma debuted in 2007, the scene for him drastically changed in 2013 when he was promoted the opening slot in limited-overs. The masterstroke eventually helped him grow further and record thousands of runs to his name.

“Batters are frustrating to bowl to”

His three double tons including the highest individual ODI score makes him one of a kind. As an opener, Rohit Sharma has scored 7148 runs from 140 ODIs at an average of 58.11 with 27 centuries. On the other hand, in T20Is, he has accumulated 2313 runs from 76 innings and hit four centuries which is again a record because it is the most by a player in the format.

Why speaking about bowling to this kind of batters, Hazlewood said, “Yeah, absolutely. I mean the batters through our time, obviously are the frustrating ones to bowl to,” He added, “Even when someone who came quicker like Mitchell Starc or Pat Cummins‘ bowling to those guys, it doesn’t seem fast and that’s probably the one thing that sticks out when you are bowling to these types of players.”
