Sangakkara, one of the greatest left-handed batters in the history of the game, expressed his admiration for Mendis’ batting on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, “So much to like and admire about the batting of Kamindu Mendis,” highlighting the young cricketer’s composure and technique under pressure.
Mendis has had a remarkable start to his Test career, amassing 625 runs in just eight innings at an impressive average of 89.57. His scores of 61, 102, 164, 92*, 9, 12, 113, and 74 reflect his consistency and ability to perform on the big stage. His innings in the ongoing Test were one of the few bright spots for Sri Lanka, who were bowled out for 196 in their first innings.
