Johnny Grave to Exit Cricket West Indies CEO Role at October’s End: What’s Next for CWI?

Johnny Grave, the Chief Executive Officer of Cricket West Indies (CWI), will step down from his position at the end of October 2024. Grave, who has held the role since February 2017, previously served as the commercial director at the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) in England. 

Grave’s Departure Marks End of Seven-Year Tenure at CWI

In the announcement, Grave expressed his gratitude for the support he received during his tenure, highlighting the successful hosting of multiple World Cups and the achievement of significant surpluses for CWI over three consecutive years. He noted that after these accomplishments, it is the right time for a new leader to build on the progress made.

During his leadership, Grave oversaw the hosting of three World Cups in the West Indies: the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup, the 2022 Under-19 World Cup, and the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, which was co-hosted with the USA. Additionally, he served as the CEO for the T20 World Cup held in June this year. Grave’s tenure has been marked by his dedication to advancing West Indies cricket, and he now looks forward to new challenges with his family.

Johnny Grave, who has been the Chief Executive Officer of Cricket West Indies (CWI) since February 2017, will step down at the end of October 2024. He succeeded Michael Muirhead and led the organisation through a period of significant achievement, including the successful hosting of the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup, the 2022 Under-19 World Cup, and the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup with the USA. Grave also made headlines earlier this year by criticising the ICC’s revenue-share model and urging reforms to support Test cricket.

CWI President Kishore Shallow praised Grave’s efforts, noting his impact during challenging times, including the Covid-19 pandemic. Shallow highlighted key accomplishments, such as the acquisition of the Coolidge Cricket Ground, which now serves as CWI’s headquarters.
