Jofra Archer was struggling from an elbow issue since the first Test match against South Africa at Centurion. He was rules out of the next three matches as England won the series 3-1. The England fast bowler although appeared to get featured in the fourth Test but had a break-down in the warm-up ahead of the match. He underwent scans in the UK on Wednesday that revealed the fracture.

England and Wales Cricket Board in a statement disclosed, “As a result of the injury, he has been ruled out of England’s Test tour of Sri Lanka and the Indian Premier League 2020 season.”

The initial scans had not shown up any significant damage and the young English bowler was trying to get fit for the Twenty20 series in South Africa starting next Tuesday. But due to his continuous discomfort, Lancashire’s Saqib Mahmood was named as his replacement in the England squad last Wednesday.

Archer expected to be fit by June

In the upcoming Sri Lanka tour England will be playing two Tests in Colombo and Galle in March. In IPL Jofra Archer would have represented Rajasthan Royals as one of the franchise’s top players. Archer will be re-scanned again four weeks from now and only if medically cleared will join one of the ECB’s back to bowling programmes.

There is a possibility of the seamer being fit in time for the start of the county season that is scheduled to begin over the Easter weekend. West Indies will begin the three-match Test tour in early June and the board expects Archer to be fit for the same. “He will now commence an injury rehabilitation programme with the ECB medical team with a view to be ready for the international summer campaign starting in June against West Indies in a three-match Test series.”
