Fast bowler and star opener, Jasprit Bumrah & Shikhar Dhawan are back to the squad. Bumrah was out of action since the completion of India’s tour of West Indies followed by a low-back stress fracture. He was at the National Cricket Academy where he was going through recovery. The Caribbean tour saw him scalping 13 wickets in two Tests but then he missed the home series against South Africa and Bangladesh that included Test matches and T20Is. After rehabilitation now Virat Kohli’s biggest weapon in the bowling unit is back and was seen in the nets before the final ODI between India and West Indies in Vishakhapatnam.

Shikhar Dhawan who missed most of the post World Cup action due to his finger injury was featured in the West Indies tour and played the home series against Bangladesh. But then even he developed a deep cut to his knee during the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament that needed multiple stitches. So he was getting recovered from the same and now has returned to the team.

The selectors decided to keep Rohit Sharma out of the series against Sri Lanka as Dhawan takes his spot in T20I. Rohit Sharma after a successful 2019 has been given the due rest and as a result, will not play the series against Sri Lanka. Mohammed Shami has been also rested for the same series.
