“I’ve learnt a lot from MS Dhoni bhaiya and Virat Kohli bhaiya”: Yashasvi Jaiswal

The Rajasthan Royals scored 202/5, the first time any side has done so in an IPL game at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 77 off 43 balls, an outstanding finishing display by Dhruv Jurel, and Devdutt Padikkal.

Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel provided RR with a strong finish, elevating them to a score of 202/5. As RR scored a total of 63 runs in the final five overs, the partnership racked up 48 runs off 20 balls for the fifth wicket. With the victory, the Royals have reclaimed first place in the standings.

Jaiswal was adjudged as the man of the match for his brilliant innings. He was flawless throughout the innings and scored some crisp boundaries. This was the second man of the match award for Jaiswal. When asked about which is his favorite one, he said, “I enjoyed both (on which POTM award he liked better).”

The Mumbai Opener also talked about how he constructed the innings. He also said that he is working closely with the management and also chatting with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

“I was trying to hit the ball but I was aware which side the wind was blowing, but I was also clear in the mind that I have to go and play good cricketing shots. It is not about just this season, I have been putting in the effort with the team management and I keep speaking to senior players like Dhoni sir and Virat bhai.”

He said that the emphasis during the innings was to keep the strike rate high,

“I was only thinking of keeping my strike rate high and I knew we need 200 to defend on this surface.”

CSK Innings

Chennai Super Kings’ response was to have difficulty being competitive in their pursuit. Before Adam Zampa claimed the second of three wickets, Ruturaj Gaikwad had made 47 off 29 balls. Ajinkya Rahane, CSK’s main threat, was out for 15 off 13 balls, leaving them to wait for a magical partnership from Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube.

Dube maintained their interest until almost halfway through the 19th over, at which point it was practically mathematically impossible for CSK to catch up. Dube was out on 52 from 33 after the final ball of the game, bringing CSK’s innings to a close at 170/6. The Royals went on to win the game by 32 runs. Earlier, when Rajasthan Royals dominated the powerplay, Jaiswal slammed his way to a half-century off just 26 balls. In the first six overs, they scored 64 runs, with Jos Buttler electing to support Jaiswal. RR skipper Sanju Samson followed Buttler in falling shortly after. After Jaiswal’s innings ended, RR briefly had trouble maintaining their run rate.
