Is Dhoni Playing His Last IPL? Find Out.

Since last year Dhoni’s presence in IPL has been a highlight. Former India captain retired last year and after that the IPL has been a significant platform to watch him play cricket. Like last year, this year also the question is whether this is going to be last IPL for Dhoni.

Dhoni’s IPL Hurrah

MS Dhoni made a comeback to cricket through IPL 2020. People were waiting to watch him on the crease since the semi-final match of World Cup 2019 between India and New Zealand. His approach was criticised. India had to leave the tournament after the loss. A section wanted Dhoni to take retirement from international cricket. However, once he took retirement last year, fans started counting days to see him donning Chennai Super Kings jersey again in IPL 2020.

Chennai Super Kings had the worst season in the history of the league last time out. Dhoni struggled as a batsman too with 100 runs in 14 games with a strike rate of 116. The right-handed keeper batsman was visibly lacking to his powerful shots that he was famous for at the death overs. Once the IPL was over, the critics once again started questioning Dhoni. Several predicted him to sign off from IPL too. But Dhoni didn’t.

What the Franchise Says

Dhoni is again captaining Chennai Super Kings this year in IPL. After a heart-breaking 2020, the three-time champions will be highly motivated to make a strong comeback this year. MS Dhoni as a captain and player would be looking for a good show this time along with the core team he leads in CSK. The he management and the franchise decided to retain MS Dhoni as captain after last year’s debacle. Even this year, amid speculations, the CEO of Chennai Super Kings said that it might not be Dhoni’s final year in IPL. He also added that CSK are not interested to replace him.

“See, I don’t think it is going to be his final year. This is my personal view and I don’t think we are looking at anybody now,” Viswanathan told the Indian Express.
