IPL Points Table 2023: Updated After RCB vs CSK Match 24

In a high-scoring game at the Chinnaswamy, Chennai Super Kings defeated hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore by just 8 runs. The game was perfectly balanced for the most part, but CSK bowlers made a great comeback in the last 4-5 overs to clench victory from the jaws of defeat.

The toss fell in favor of the Royal Challengers Bangalore and captain Faf du Plessis decided to bowl first on his home turf. RCB were off to a great start as Mohammed Siraj picked up the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK’s highest run-getter this season. However, after Gaikwad’s failure, new stars emerged for CSK in the form of Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, and Shivam Dube. Conway smashed a 45-ball 83 with 6 fours and 6 sixes. Rahane and Dube also pitched in with 37 and 52 respectively. After a last-over drama, CSK were finally able to put a target of 227 runs for a formidable RCB batting line-up to chase.

Coming on to chase such a huge total, RCB were off to a poor start, losing Virat Kohli in the first over itself. Mahipal Lomror followed in the second over and RCB were on the verge of a massive defeat, having been reduced to 15 for 2 in 2 overs. However, Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis, with their excellent strokeplay, made sure that RCB were right in accordance with the required run rate. While the duo was still at the crease, it felt like an easy chase for RCB.

But, when RCB lost both Maxwell and Faf Du Plessis in a span of 20 runs, all hope seemed to be lost. Maxwell scored 76 off 36 balls while Du Plessis scored 62 from 33 balls. Dinesh Karthik and Suyash Prabhudessai tried their best but it all went in vain as RCB eventually lost the game by 8 runs. Prabhudessai’s wicket off the final ball was a testament to how the match had been for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

After this defeat, RCB now have 4 points in 5 games, with 2 wins and 3 defeats. They are in the 7th spot, right where they started before the game. Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, have moved up to the 3rd spot with 6 points in 5 games.
