After a turbulent season with ups and downs for all teams in the IPL 2024, the season has finally concluded all of its 74 matches. For the unversed, Kolkata Knight Riders won the trophy this year, with Sun Risers Hyderabad who played in the finals and won their fans’ hearts.
With this, the Cricket commentators and experts have turned their focus on the next auction for IPL 2025. There have been many speculations about who will be included in the next season, and who won’t.
Aakash Chopra guesses RCB auctions for IPL 2025
Aakash Chopra has made some guesses about the chances of player retention in Royal Challengers Bangalore. After 6 consecutive wins, that led them to the IPL 2024 playoffs, RCB seemed almost invincible until they lost the eliminator match against Rajasthan Royals.
The team’s ex-captain Virat Kohli was the Orange Cap winner in the recently concluded season. The opener amassed 741 runs at a strike rate of 154.69 in 15 innings. Kohli was replaced by South African batsman Faf du Plessis as the team’s captain.
In a video shared on Aakash Chopra’s YouTube channel, the commentator was seen expressing his opinion that Kohli should not only be RCB’s first retention but might also be keen to take back the leadership position.
“One guy to retain is Virat Kohli. Of course, he comes as the first retention and you need to keep Virat Kohli with you, both Bengaluru and Kohli believe that. So I am seeing another three-year retention. For all we know, Virat Kohli might want to be the leader again, or else you have to go shopping for a leader,” he said
Faf du Plessis might not be retained:
Chopra also made a bold assumption about the team’s current captain, Faf du Plessis not being retained in the team next season.
“I feel Faf du Plessis might not be on the retention list for the simple reason that you are looking at a three-year future and Faf is not getting younger by the day. It’s a pivotal moment where you have to decide between immediate future and long-term gain,” Chopra explained
Glenn Maxwell, Lockie Ferguson share Faf’s destiny?
Chopra further reinforced his opinions, adding that Glenn Maxwell, Alzarri Joseph and Lockie Ferguson might also not get selected in the team for IPL 2025.
“So Faf might be released there. I don’t think they would want to retain Glenn Maxwell at all. They will say tata bye-bye. Alzarri Joseph, Lockie Ferguson – tata bye-bye to everyone,” he added
Maxwell had a disappointing performance this season, aggregating 52 runs at a dismal average of 5.78 in nine innings
