IPL 2023: Watch Virat Kohli and Saurav Ganguly refuse to hand shake each other after RCB vs DC clash

Royal Challengers Bangalore beat the Delhi Capitals convincingly by 23 runs. The RCB team needed the victory after a string of losses. Delhi Capitals have now lost 5 games in a row with things looking very tough for them.

Virat Kohli scored a fifty off just 34 balls to take Royal Challengers to a respectable total. He was named as the player of the match for his well-compiled half-century. After the match was over, the players were involved in a routine handshake with each other and the opposition. While Kohli handshaked everyone, he deliberately or by mistake avoided shaking hands with the former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly who is now a part of the Delhi Capitals franchise.

The ugly spat between Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly

This raised a lot of questions on social media about the ugly spat between him and Ganguly. The then BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly unceremoniously removed Kohli from T20 Captaincy. The alleged enmity between Ganguly and Kohli is not new. When Kohli resigned as the T20I captain in 2021, their strained relationship officially started. Ganguly stated that Kohli was requested to stay on by the BCCI, but Kohli refuted this. Fast-forward to January 2022, after India lost to South Africa, and Kohli gives up the ODI and Test captaincy positions.

Due to the “cooling-off” clause, Ganguly was not re-elected as BCCI President in October 2021. He is currently the Delhi Capitals’ director of cricket. Concerns were expressed regarding the performance and spirit of the Indian cricket squad due to the conflict between Ganguly and Kohli.

Sting Operation by Chetan Sharma

Sharma was the target of a sting operation that allegedly caught him talking about secret team selection information and making disparaging remarks about players like Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. He even implied that Kohli and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly were having an ego conflict, saying that Kohli thought of himself as “greater than the Board.”
