IPL 2023 RCB vs GT: Who will qualify if the match is washed out due to rain?

The bad news for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is that Gujarat Titans (GT) will be their opponent in their final Indian Premier League (IPL) game in 2023 with the threat of rain looming over them. Not only will it be their final home contest of the year, but the game will also hold the key to their playoff destiny. 

What happens if RCB vs GT gets washed out?

Along with the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore are currently ranked fourth on the points table with 14 points. But their greater NRR is what sets them apart from both of these clubs. The five time champions Mumbai Indians won their match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier on Sunday. Due to this, RCB are in a must win situation against the Titans. 

However, the game between RCB and GT may even be abandoned due to the rain. In that case, the host team would receive one point, bringing its total to 15. The Faf du Plessis would be eliminated with Mumbai Indians winning their game against SRH and now are on 16 points. 

This would mean that the four teams that would qualify for the playoffs would be Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians. 

But right now, the toss has taken place at the Chinnaswamy. Gujarat skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first. But just when the game was about to begin, the rain has again started and there has been a delay in the start of play. If the rain continues, we might see a shortened game or even the game would be washed out. This would mean that the Royal Challengers Bangalore would be eliminated from the tournament. With all the qualification possibilities on the rain, RCB would want the match to begin and have a crack at the Gujarat Titans for the last group stage match of the tournament.
