Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals managed to secure a thrilling victory against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk stadium, marking their first win against CSK at the venue in 15 years. In a nail-biting encounter, RR managed to hold their nerves and win the game by a narrow margin of 3 runs. However, amidst the celebrations, there was also some bad news for Rajasthan Royals as their captain, Sanju Samson, has been fined for breaching a Code of Conduct.
Sanju Samson fined Rs. 12 Lakh
Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson has been fined Rs 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match against Chennai Super Kings. According to the rules and regulations set by the IPL governing body, teams are required to maintain a certain over-rate during the game, failing which the captain of the team is penalized. In this case, Rajasthan Royals were found to be lagging behind the required over-rate by a significant margin, resulting in the fine imposed on their skipper.
In an official statement released by the Indian Premier League, it was revealed that Sanju was fined. “Rajasthan Royals have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match 17 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Wednesday,” the release said
“As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, captain Sanju Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” the release further added.
However, the fine would have been a small price to pay considering the joy and satisfaction of beating CSK at their home ground after a long wait of 15 years. The Royals managed to achieve this feat in a nail-biting encounter where they denied a rampaging MS Dhoni a six or a four off the final ball of the match to secure a three-run victory.
