Rishabh Pant walked out for the first time as an IPL captain. In absence of injured Shreyas Iyer he is leading the side for this year’s IPL campaign. Pant the toss and elected to field first. While speaking about the team combination he revealed, “The wicket is slightly softer underneath. I’m going to be a mix of experience and youth.” Rishabh Pant also shared his feeling about sharing the toss session with Dhoni as opponent skipper. “Good to have the first outing with Mahi bhai.”
Why Is Smith Not Playing?
To have the right combination the Capitals decided to go without the Australian superstar Steve Smith in their first match of Indian Premier League, also he didn’t place in the 7th match of the IPL. Pant informed that Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetmyer, Chris Woakes, and Tom Curran will be the four overseas players from the Capitals squad for this match. “Stoinis, Hetmyer, Woakes, and Tom Curran are our overseas players. We are not playing in Delhi, so we are fine.”
Tom Curran received maiden Delhi Capitals cap along with his England team-mate Chris Woakes. Chennai Super Kings will be having Sam Curran, Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, and Dwayne Bravo as their four foreigners. This means the IPL is all set to host a Curran v Curran in the second match of IPL 2021. Interestingly this will be Woakes’ first T20 since August 2018.
