Quinton de Kock, the South African wicketkeeper-batsman had landed in India earlier this week. He had to follow the Covid-19 protocol. It was a bubble-to-bubble transfer as de Kock was earlier a part of the South African team’s bubble. Still, he could not join his IPL team immediately. The Mumbai Indians franchisee wrote in a preview in their official website confirming the same.

“Captain Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock have been Mumbai Indians’ preferred opening pair for at least two years now. However, the latter joins the MI camp after completing national duties and will undergo a mandatory 7-day quarantine. Therefore, this game will see a new pair open the game for the Men in Blue and Gold.”
They also wrote about the possible substitute in place of Quinton de Kock. They gave hint about Chris Lynn as a backup for de Kock. “Chris Lynn, who was in an unforgiving mood in the Big Bash League, might be a great backup option.”
Quinton de Kock was the second-highest scorer for Mumbai Indians last season. He added 503 runs in 16 matches at an average of 35.92 and with a strike rate of 140.50. He has been a core part of Mumbai Indians since 2019. He was purchased by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2019 and played some crucial knocks for them. He was also the highest run-scorer for the side with 529 runs in 17 games. Rohit Sharma and de Kock make a perfect opening pair and always complement each other. The pair has helped Mumbai Indians create a solid base for their innings a number of times. No wonder Mumbai Indians will be missing de Kock.
