IPL 2021: Here’s The Reason Why Kane Williamson is not Playing Today Against Kolkata Knight Riders

Sunrisers Hyderabad chose to field first after winning the toss in their first IPL 2021 match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Kane Williamson, the New Zealand skipper missed the chance to take part in the game today. Let’s find out why Kane Williamson is not playing today against KKR.

Here is Why Kane Williamson is not playing today

David Warner, the Hyderabad captain decided to field first and disclosed the team they would be playing today. Warner revealed that four overseas players for SRH for today’s fixture are Warner himself, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, and Jonny Bairstow. The IPL rules do not allow a side to play more than four overseas players in a match. Clearly this is a major reason of Kane Williamson missing the opportunity.

Kane Williamson had a direct competition with Jonny Bairstow to cement a place in the first XI. Bairstow recently played in India and must be familiar with the conditions here. Moreover, he was visibly in a good touch. the Hyderabad management must have thought of these aspects while preferring Bairstow over the Kiwi skipper for this opening match of SRH.

SRH to field first

David Warner, after winning the toss, said, “We’re bowling first. This wicket will play a little different, it’s a lot drier. There wasn’t much dew in the last training session, and so that won’t make much of a difference. We know what we can chase to be honest, and we prefer doing that.” He informed, “Our foreign players are myself, Rashid Khan, Nabi and Jonny Bairstow.”

Kolkata Knight Riders: 1 Shubman Gill, 2 Rahul Tripathi, 3 Nitish Rana, 4 Eoin Morgan (capt), 5 Dinesh Karthik (wk), 6 Andre Russell, 7 Shakib Al Hasan, 8 Pat Cummins, 9 Harbhajan Singh, 10 Prasidh Krishna, 11 Varun Chakravarthy

Sunrisers Hyderabad :1 David Warner (capt), 2 Wriddhiman Saha (wk), 3 Manish Pandey, 4 Jonny Bairstow, 5 Vijay Shankar, 6 Mohammad Nabi, 7 Abdul Samad, 8 Rashid Khan, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Sandeep Sharma, 11 T Natarajan
