Chennai Super Kings must be on lookout for the replacement for Josh Hazlewood now. Hazlewood decided to give a miss to IPL 2021. He said he would be looking forward to the T20 World Cup scheduled for later this year. The buddle fatigue is another reason behind the decision as well.
Now the CSK need to find out a suitable replacement for Hazlewood. They do not have much time in hand but have quite a few options available to choose from. Oshane Thomas, Sheldon Cottrell, Tim Southee, David Willey, Billy Stanlake, Mitchell McClenaghan, Jason Behrendorff, Sean Abbott, Scott Kugglegin, Isuru Udana are the top pacers available for grab. From pace bowling department, Lungi Ngidi, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, and Dwayne Bravo are the options for the team to choose from in Hazlewood’s absence.
Mitchell McClenaghan from New Zealand left-arm pacer is a familiar name when in comes to the T20 league cricket. He still failed to find a side bidding for him in the IPL 2021 auction. He had five successful seasons with Mumbai Indians and could be a great replacement for Hazlewood.
Billy Stanlake is an Australian T20I specialist. He comes handy during powerplays. His ability to make the batsmen mistake is what gives him success. Stanlake, with experience of playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore previously went unsold in the last auction.
This all-rounder from New Zealand Scott Kuggeleijn failed to impress in his debut IPL season. But he is a genuine fast bowler and last season of Caribben Premier League is another proof to that. For St Lucia Zouks, Kuggeleijn picked 17 wickets in 11 games and ended as the highest wicket-taker of the season.
Let’s not forget that Chennai Super Kings love to work with spinners which is why Adil Rashid can be their choice. The leg spinner has a decent record in T20Is with 55 wickets to his name in 50 matches. He missed an IPL contract but could be a fine asset to the Dhoni-led IPL franchise.
