According to Ravi Ashwin, Mumbai Indians will be “the team to beat” in the upcoming IPL. He also spoke about Delhi Capitals’ chance to do well in the IPL under the new captain Rishabh Pant.

Ravichandran Ashwin is getting ready for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He will be seen playing for Delhi Capitals who came runners-up in the previous edition. This time Delhi Capitals will be favourites but will not be an easy journey for the. While asked about the strong team in IPL, Ashwin chose Mumbai Indians.

“Every team is strong, and I am not making a diplomatic statement. But I definitely think Mumbai has got a powerful and experienced squad. Mumbai will always start as favourites in this competition. I think Mumbai is the team to beat,” Ashwin told the New Indian Express.

Ashwin on Delhi Capitals Chance in IPL

This year, Delhi Capitals will be without their fabulous captain Shreyas Iyer. Iyer, as a captain was extremely effective for Delhi and last two seasons were proof to the same. Ashwin was asked about the Capitals’ chances to do well in the IPL 14. He answered, “Good (On DC’s chances), well-balanced one. Last year, our batting did not come well together. It was understandable due to lockdown and all that.” This year Ashwin has faith in Pant, the new young skipper of Delhi Capitals. He said, “But this year, in the kind of form in which Rishabh Pant is, definitely that (team’s batting) also will get sorted out.”

Ashwin continued, “We have a good chance. But if you see the last few years, it is not always about the top two or three sides. Every team picks players judiciously and have good balance and options. The IPL is in a new caravan model, so conditions also will play a part.”
