Jhye Richardson is one of the exciting next generation pacers from Australia. The young Western Australian is pretty experienced, especially in the T20 format and his outstanding show in the Big Bash 2020 ensured that quite a few IPL teams were interested to get his service. It was a three way race in the auction as Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capital also showed interest but it was Punjab Kings who finally got the fast bowler for Rs 14 Crore. Recently in an interview, Richardson mentioned that the Auction was scary but life changing for him.

Richardson had progressed through age group cricket in Australia and was part of the Australia Under-19 squad for the 2016 Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh. At the same time, he also made his First-class debut for Western Australia and BBL debut for Perth Scorchers. One of his most memorable matches in Richardson’s career came during the 2016-2017 BBL final when a brilliant spell of 3 for 30 from Richardson helped Scorchers to win the BBL against Sydney Sixers. He got the player-of-the-match in the final.

Within three weeks Richardson got his maiden national cap as he made his T20 Internationals debut against Sri Lanka. Since then, he was in and out of the Australia team with injuries playing a key role in his career. He even missed the World Cup 2019 due to injury. Till now he has played 13 ODIs and 14 T20I and two test matches against Sri Lanka in 2019.

Richardson took his career to a new height in the BBL 2020 as the Scorchers bowler finished as the highest wicket taker in the tournament with 29 wickets. He was among the wickets throughout the tournament and got two four wicket hauls. Richardson made his debut against Rajasthan Royals in Punjab Kings’ first match in IPL 2021.
