IPL 2020: Three players SRH might target in the auction

Sunrisers Hyderabad is going through a good run in the Indian Premier League where they have made to the playoffs in the last four seasons including their maiden win in 2016. The team looked solid, however, there are a few key gaps, specially created due to Shakib Al Hasan’s absence which they will look to fill.

Rahkeem Cornwall

Shakib al Hasan was an experienced IPL player with his stints with KKR and SRH. In the Sunrisers lineup, he used to provide the balance and flexibility by batting as a floater and also bowling at a different stage of the innings. In his absence, Rahkeem Cornwall can perfectly fit the bill. Cornwall had a great CPL and announced himself with his first 10-wicket haul in his first test on Indian soil and will definitely be a good pick for his off-spins. He is also capable of playing big shots as he maintains a strike rate excess of 150 in 41 T20 matches and has even featured as an opener for St. Lucia Zouks during CPL.

Shimron Hetmyer

Another West Indian youngster they can look to fill their middle-order void created by releasing Shakib, Yousuf Pathan, and Deepak Hooda is Shimron Hetmyer. He announced himself in 2018 and was named as ICC’s one of the five breakout stars in world cricket. He was the youngest centurion in Caribbean Premier League and was bought by RCB for a whooping price before 2019 IPL. However, his performance was not great and he accumulated only 90 runs in five matches whereas an innings of 75 came against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Now he is again available in the auction and Sunrisers can be one of their strong suitors.

Andrew Tye

The Indian young fast bowlers like Khaleel Ahmed and Siddarth Kaul have given good service to Sunrisers in last few seasons but the last one year was not so good for both in international cricket and Sunrisers may opt for an experienced overseas bowling option to provide stability. Andrew Tye can be one of their choices for this role. Tye made his IPL debut in 2017 in fantastic fashion by picking up a 5-wicket haul including a hat-trick. He moved to Kings XI Punjab in 2018 and finished as one of the top wicket-takers with 24 wickets in that season. Although his returns in 2019 were not satisfactory but overall, he has experience of 142 T20 matches and played all around the globe.

Sunrisers have only 17 Crore left in their purse and need to be intelligent in their planning for the auction.
