IPL 2020: Three players RCB might target in the auction

Royal Challengers Bangalore have a huge fan base and world’s best player in Virat Kohli but still, their performance in IPL over the years are inconsistent and at times abysmal. In 2019 they finished 8th out of the eight teams and hence went for wholesome changes before the auction. They have released 12 players and will look to bring some new superstars in the squad.

Chris Lynn

Before 2018, a big part of RCB strategy was Chris Gayle’s attacking batting during the powerplay. With Gayle being part of Kings XI Punjab now they will look for someone to provide them with that blistering start. Chris Lynn can be a perfect choice for that. Being released by KKR, Lynn can be a prized possession after the auction as his T20 pedigree is world-class and he is just coming from the Abu Dhabi T10 where he was the top scorers and played some amazing innings. His tendency to get injured can be a worry but he has a pretty good record in IPL where he has played 41 matches with 10 fifty-plus scores and a strike rate of 140 plus.

Andrew Tye

Andrew Tye is one of the overseas fast bowlers who can help RCB to bolster their bowling attack which got much flack last year. Tye had a great start in IPL in 2017 for Gujarat Lions when he took a five-wicket haul and got a hattrick. He moved to Kings XI Punjab in 2018 and finished as one of the top wicket-takers with 24 wickets in that season. He did not have a good 2019 and just three wickets in six matches is not a kind of return he would expect. But overall, he has experience of 142 T20 matches and played all around the globe. His experience and variation can be a key strength for RCB in IPL 2020.

Hayden Walsh Jr.

Yuzvendra Chahal is a consistent performance for RCB over the years in the middle overs. But at times it felt that he is not getting the support from the other end which can make him even fore effective. The RCB management should focus on this aspect and should look to bring another young spinner like Hayden Walsh Jr. The American born dual international is also a leg-spinner like Chahal and had a good Caribbean Premier League before delivering a good show against Afghanistan in limited-overs cricket. Walsh was the highest wicket-taker in CPL and also had a five-wicket haul. There should be high competition for Walsh in the auction and RCB need to show lots on intent if they want to go for the youngster.

Despite having two world-class players in Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, RCB always remains slightly off with respect to team balance and this is something which will be in mind of the team management when they will sit for IPL auction in December.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will enter in the IPL 2020 Auction with the purse of Rs. 27.90 Crores.
