IPL 2020: Things to Know About RR’s New Debutant Kartik Tyagi

Kartik Tyagi was bought by the Rajasthan based IPL franchise in the IPL 2020 auction. Rajasthan Royals have been known for nurturing young Indian talents. Tyagi who proved his mettle in India’s Under 19 World Cup 2020 campaign is hence expected to make a debut for Rajasthan Royals soon and get fair chance to prove his ability against international superstars in IPL 2020.

Things to know about Kartik Tyagi

1.) The youthful fast bowler from Uttar Pradesh Kartik Tyagi is able to pursue his dream career because of his father’s struggles and sacrifices. Tyagi was never a bright student and his family was okay with the fact. The modest family from Dhanora village in west Uttar Pradesh instead was ready to support the speedster. When he injured himself in his second first-class match it took him six months to recover. Tyagi was not ready to give up on his dreams. He was determined to make it to India’s Under 19 squad for the World Cup. His father hence decided to sell off all his land in his village to nurture his son’s dream.

2.) At a tender age, Kartik Tyagi joined a cricket academy in Meerut. The art of fast bowling always fascinated him. Hence, he began started learning the tricks at a very young age and was quite a quick learner. It did not take him time to get selected in the Uttar Pradesh-14 side. He made his List-A debut for Uttar Pradesh in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017-18. In five List-A matches so far he has taken nine wickets at an average of 29 and an economy of 5.55.

3.) The first-class debut at the age of 16 and did pretty well. But injuries came in way of Tyagi’s first-class career. Tyagi injured himself during a warm-up football match in his second first-class game for Uttar Pradesh. In his only first-class fixture during the Ranji Trophy 2017-18, he picked up three wickets at an average of 13.33 and an economy of 5.55 against Railways.

4.) Kartik Tyagi was instrumental behind India’s unbeaten Under 19 World Cup run to the final earlier this year. His spell especially in the quarter-final Australia proved that he is here to stay. In his first over he went to scalp three key wickets which set the base of India’s win. His magic bowling figure of 4/24 helped India defend a below-par total in the match with ease. He returned with 11 wickets in six games at an average of 13.90 and an economy of 3.45. His ability to swing the ball in the tournament was a glimpse of what Indian cricket could expect from him in the future.
