IPL 2020 : Reasons why these players are released

After the final transfers, the franchised finally decided on the players they want to release. There are few names who have had good memories with their respective teams who have emerged as bright players, and who have been constant members. Let’s see why the following players are released by their IPL teams.

Ben Cutting (MI) –

Mumbai Indians currently boast of three overseas medium-pace-bowling allrounders in Kieron Pollard, Sherfane Rutherford, and Ben Cutting. But the possibility is only one would get a chance in playing XI. Since Mumbai have traded Rutherford from Delhi Capitals, that’s, why they have released Cutting.

Mohit Sharma (CSK)-

Chennai Super Kings generally believe in retaining their core players. But Sharma played just one game for Super Kings last season and has not played any form of cricket since then. If he doesn’t feature regularly, he tends to be an expensive option.

Marcus Stoinis (RCB)-

Royal Challengers Bangalore are once again gearing up to work on their reputation and the caching department modification is a part of it. Now they need to free up the bench to have a good purse at the auction. They would love to bag some young talents and the less impactful players might be released. Stoinis traded from Kings XI Punjab before last season wasn’t much effective in the combination.

Martin Guptill (SRH) –

David Warner and Jonny Bairstow are available for the full season for Sunrisers Hyderabad. So Martin Guptill getting a game is unlikely in the upcoming edition. Moreover, his stints in India has not been that impressive and so Hyderabad might look for some younger and cheaper options.

Robin Uthappa (KKR)-

Robin Uthappa is going through a bad phase. In the ongoing domestic season, the 2014 Orange Cap winner has been in poor form. Uthappa could only 140 runs from ten white-ball matches this season across formats. Most importantly he was visibly struggling in the last IPL for KKR. There is hardly any point of retaining him in the squad.

Chris Morris (DC)-

The South African allrounder failed to have an impact after coming back from injury. Chris Morris was the second player retained by Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2018 auction and famous for his finishing abilities at the death. But the drop in his performance might force Delhi to look for other options. With the revamp mode of the Capitals Morris will probably lose his place.

Varun Chakravarthy (KXIP)-

Varun Chakravarthy was one of the brightest newcomers who made headlines with the appearance. But he picked up an injury and was featured in only one game last season. Moreover, he was not seen on the field to play competitive cricket since then. Kings XI Punjab might not like to invest time on him anymore.

Jaydev Unadkat (RR) –

Jaydev Unadkat was another sensational name and among the most expensive buys in the last two auctions. But he failed to live up to the expectations. Letting him go for better young talent that could be availed for a lower price is what probably Rajasthan Royals will look for.
