IPL 2020: Ravichandran Ashwin Gives First and Final Warning

Ravichandran Ashwin did not mankad Aaron Finch which became a news yesterday for obvious reasons. But what followed was an interesting post by Ashwin on his social media handle. He clearly mentioned that he had given the first and final warning for the IPL 2020.

No mankading this time

The 34-year-old is having a great IPL so far in UAE as an experienced mainstay of Delhi Capitals. In IPL 2019, Ashwin was into the headlines for mankadaing Jos Buttler. Back then he was leading Kings XI Punjab. He was criticized by a lot of people for violating the spirit of game. Ashwin, however always defended his action citing the rulebook. Yesterday, history almost repeated itself when Ashwin got another chance to mankad. This time it was Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Aaron Finch.

IPL 2020: Ashwin Refrains from Mankading Finch

When Ashwin was bowling at the initial stage of the Bangalore innings to Devdutt Padikkal, Aaron Finch, the non-striker was way ahead of his crease. Ashwin saw that and instead of mankading went on to warn Finch this time. Ahead of IPL 2020, the head coach of Delhi Capitals Ricky Ponting spoke about having a discussion with Ashwin regarding the same. So when this happened and a satisfied Ponting was seen smiling on television screen, the social media went crazy.

Ashwin’s final warning

A huge section of fans and experts yesterday came up saying Ashwin should have gone for mankading instead of giving that warning. At the end of day’s play after registering the fourth win of Delhi Capitals this season, Ashwin took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the same. He wrote, “Let’s make it clear !! First and final warning for 2020. I am making it official and don’t blame me later on. @RickyPonting #runout #nonstriker @AaronFinch5 and I are good buddies btw.”

The reaction from Ponting was priceless. The tweet from Ashwin was hilarious. But overall a debate started, yet again. This time a lot wanted Ashwin to go for the mankading.
