IPL 2020: Pat Cummins Is Ready For IPL Even Without Crowds

Pat Cummins is pretty hopeful about the feature of the IPL 2020. He thinks that despite the pandemic, IPL will be played this year even a few of the matches have to be played without the spectators.

Cummins hopeful about IPL 2020

The IPL start was already deferred to April 15 from March 29. But the situation has not improved much worldwide. Amid such concerning scenario, the Indian cricket board has not taken any final call on the future of the 13th season of the Indian Premier League. There are talks of the league being hosted in the mid or later part of the year, being taken out of India, and even being played in empty stadiums. Not just Indian players, a lot of foreign players have been associated with the most entertaining and rich T20 cricket league over the years. The cancellation of one edition of the league means a massive loss to everyone associated with the same.

Pat Cummins is one such overseas player to be taken by Kolkata Knight Riders for a huge amount of $2.18 million. No wonder he is eager to play the league and deliver his best for his team. Cummins, the ICC Test player of the year is likewise very much optimistic about the fate of the IPL 13.

Cummins on IPL without the crowd

In a chat with BBC, Cummins told that the first priority is safety with the second being getting back to the normalcy. “The first priority is safety but the second one is getting back to normality, finding that balance.” Speaking about cricket and IPL he said to ensure safety if one has to sacrifice the crowd, “then that is that, but hopefully people can watch at home on TV.”

He also mentioned that the crowd is the biggest attraction of playing in India. “When people ask about the difference between playing cricket in India the first thing is the crowd. They scream every single ball whether it’s a six or a wicket – it’s the same noise every ball – so that atmosphere is something that we love about playing in India.” So according to Cummins, “It will be missed in the short term if it can’t happen, but I have no doubt it will be a great event even if it has to be played without crowds.”
