IPL 2020, KXIP vs RCB: What went wrong for Royal Challengers Bangalore?

Well, everything. Royal Challengers Bangalore seems to be back to their zone where they look clueless. After winning their first match RCB were expected to continue their good show and eventually manage to end this edition on a good note. But within their second match, they proved all wrong.

Royal Challengers Bangalore chose to field first winning the toss. Yuzvendra Chahal played well yet again and provided an early breakthrough. KL Rahul was outstanding in this fixture and proved why he is India’s best T20 batsman. His blistering 132* off 69 balls was enough to send a chill to the opposition camp. Thanks to his brilliance, Kings XI Punjab ended with 206/3. Apart from Chahal none of the RCB bowlers looked on track. Dale Steyn, the most expensive one from the bunch was hit for four maximums by KL Rahul.

What went wrong with RCB

RCB lost three key batsmen in the first three overs of their innings. Washington Sundar was their highest run-scorer with 30 runs. Virat Kohli yet again failed and could add only one run to RCB’s total of 109 runs. Aaron Finch (20) and AB de Villiers (28) did try to resist the KXIP bowlers during their short stays. But nothing worked for RCB today. They required one big knock, one good partnership, a responsible batter to carry on the innings. They found none.

They say catches win matches. Virat Kohli proved that missed catches do have the ability to change the fate of a match. Virat Kohli first dropped his team India teammate on the final ball of the 17thover when the latter was batting on 83. It was an easy catch but somehow the RCB captain failed to pouch it. Six balls later Kohli repeated the same mistake when KL Rahul miscued another one-off Navdeep Saini at long-off. KL Rahul was at 89 at this stage. Post that KL Rahul went on to smash 42 off nine balls.
