IPL 2020, KKR vs SRH: What went wrong for Sunrisers Hyderabad?

Sunrisers Hyderabad failed to claim a win against Kolkata Knight Riders. This means they are the only team win two loss from two matches. Currently, Sunrisers Hyderabad are standing at the bottom of the points table. If they do not work on their drawbacks quickly this campaign might not be a happy memory for them.

What went wrong with SRH

Sunrisers Hyderabad did not have a great start as they lost their highest run-scorer of previous, Jonny Bairstow too soon. But what followed was a good effort from David Warner and Manish Pandey. Both tried to build the innings and kept the scoreboard moving. However, they failed to accelerate the run rate even after settling down. Warner scored 36 off 30 balls with a strike rate of 120 and Pandey scored 51 off 38 with a strike rate of 134.21. But warner was dismissed on the first ball after the first Strategic Time out and that impacted Sunrisers’ rhythm. Later Wriddhiman Saha joined in the middle but took 31 balls to add 30 runs. They definitely failed to play the kind of game this format demands. Sunrises Hyderabad overall fell short off around 20-25 runs as a target of 143 was never going to be tough to be chased down by a team like Kolkata Knight Riders.

During bowling, Khaleel Ahmed gave a major initial breakthrough as he dismissed Sunil Narine for a duck. But the Hyderabad bowlers failed to work on it and utilize the opportunity well. Shubman Gill (70* off 62) and Nitish Rana (26 off 13) built the innings and kept on adding quick runs keeping the require run rate in mind. Rana played an exceptional cameo and gave the momentum to KKR. After his dismissal, Dinesh Karthik was quick to follow run in space of just ten runs. But even then, Sunrisers Hyderabad could not contain the KKR batter. The quick wickets did not help the SRH bowlers much. Moreover, Eoin Morgan played a fine inning of 42* runs from 29 balls which ensured KKR end the match on a happy note.
