Harbhajan Singh becomes the second player of Chennai Super Kings to pull out of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League in the UAE. Suresh Raina was the first one to do so. Singh will miss the entire IPL 2020 for “personal reasons”. He conveyed his decision to the management on Thursday, reportedly. The veteran was to join the team on September 1. A formal announcement from the team owners is yet to be made.

Chennai Super Kings camp is going through a tough time this even before start of the league. at first 13 of CSK’s members – including two players Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad – tested positive for Covid-19. As a result, CSK was forced to postpone the start of its training while all the other teams have already begun their practice sessions in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Then Suresh Raina withdrew himself from the tournament. Initially, this led to controversy over some quotations of the CSK owner N Srinivasan published by media. But then things were clarified on Srinivasan’s part. Raina’s family has been facing some difficulty in India which was later revealed by the cricketer in a series of tweets.

On September 1 Raina tweeted, “What happened to my family is Punjab was beyond horrible. My uncle was slaughtered to death, my bua & both my cousins had sever injuries. Unfortunately, my cousin also passed away last night after battling for life for days. My bua is still very very critical & is on life support.” Later the left-handed batter in an interview hinted, “You never know, you might see me in the camp again. First, I have to take care of my responsibilities here and then am ready.”
