IPL 2020: Gayle can Comeback. But is he Ready?

Is there a chance of Chris Gayle making an IPL comeback finally? Amid the troublesome position of Kings XI Punjab in Indian Premier League 2020, they might need a Gayle power now to take them out of the deep-rooted problem. Wasim Jaffer, KXIP batting coach also gave an idea of the same meanwhile.

The Universe Boss Gayle has been on the dugout for five IPL 2020 games of Kings XI Punjab. KL Rahul, the captain was asked about the same in after couple of matches and Rahul told, “Chris Gayle will come in at the right time, don’t worry about it. It was tough sitting at home and so we are grateful to get this opportunity to play. The guys are enjoying themselves despite the rustiness in the first game.” When the right time will arrive that is the million-dollar question for Gayle fans. It’s been couple of weeks since then and KXIP have faced four defeats out of their five outings so far in the IPL 2020. In all probability, KXIP would now like to look at the evergreen genius at this tough time before things go out of hand.

Even their batting coach Wasim Jaffer gave some hint about the same. Jaffer told about Gayle and Mujeeb to PTI from Dubai, “It should happen soon. As I said, it needs to happen sooner than later. We don’t want to bring them when every game is a must win game. Hopefully, we will have those guys featuring soon.” Jaffer, calling him a match-winner opined, “I am hoping he plays quickly. We need match-winners, as many as possible. Not just for the next game, also for the rest of the tournament as he can easily win you four-five games on his own.”

But who will Gayle replace in Kings XI Punjab squad? They have a blaster in their line-up who has yet to showcase his form. Glenn Maxwell, ever after his devastating form in the concluded series between England and Australia, could only score just 41 runs from five matches in IPL 2020. So in all likelihood, Maxwell has to sacrifice his position to Gayle now. With the most number of sixes (326) in the history of Indian Premier League, Gayle is still an asset to any team and can be a game changer on any given day. Chris Gayle has 4484 IPL runs in 124 innings with a strike rate above 151. No wonder, this man can changes scenario for Kings XI Punjab.

Despite Jaffer’s faith on Gayle, how the man in question would perform on the field will be an interesting watch. Gayle, like others was out of cricket for months. He went on to give a miss to Caribbean Primere League as well. This means, he has been out of real cricket for quite a sometime unlike his West Indies colleague. However, while asked about the same, Jaffer added: “Chris looks very much ready and is keen to get on to the park, he has been training really well and has looked really good in the nets. He is such an impact player, we all know what he can do. I hope he turns up and turns it on straightaway and changes the tide for all of us. He looks hungry and that is a very good sign for the franchise.”
