IPL 2020: Five Things to Know About SRH’s New Admit Priyam Garg

Priyam Garg is all set to make his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 13th edition of the league in UAE. After his impressive growth through stages, he was roped in by SRH ahead of this IPL auction.

Things to know about Priyam Garg

1.) Priyam Garg, the young middle-order batsman for Sunrisers Hyderabad, was born on 30th November 2000 at Quila Parikshitgarh, a small village around 25km from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. He has represented Uttar Pradesh in all the age group cricket starting from Under 14, Under 16, and Under 19. Based on his performance in various age-group cricket he was selected for the Indian Under 19 team and also got the honor to lead the team during 2020 Under 19 World Cup in South Africa.

2.) Under Garg’s captaincy, India reached the final but lost narrowly by D/L method to Bangladesh in a heated encounter. Garg batted in only three innings during the tournament and scored a fifty against Sri Lanka. Getting India Under 19 captaincy was a great boost in Garg’s career and it also justified all the sacrifices his father made for him.

3.) His father Naresh Garg used to drive a school van and worked extremely hard to ensure Garg gets all the support and equipment he needs to reach the top level. He also lost his mother in 2011 who dreamt of him playing for India. It is his biggest regret that she could not see the day when he finally got the chance to lead India in the Under 19 World Cup.

4.) Garg made his first-class debut in November 2018, 12 days prior to his 18th birthday, and immediately made a mark with a debut century against Goa. It was a great day for Garg, who faced significant challenges in his early days. He continued his good form and delivered more than 800 runs in the season for Uttar Pradesh. He made his maiden double hundred against Tripura during the campaign.

5.) He has played 12 first-class matches to date and his last match was a Duleep Trophy clash between India Red and India Green with Garg representing the later. Garg has played 11 T20 matches before IPL and scored 227 runs with an average of 28.37 and a strike rate of 132.74.
