IPL 2020: Double Achievements for Shikhar Dhawan in Match Against KXIP

Shikhar Dhawan celebrated his 10th Indian cricket anniversary with an IPL century. He also recorded 5000 IPL runs after a prolific inning against Kings XI Punjab in Dubai.

Dhawan makes history

The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League is turning out to be a special one for Shikhar Dhawan. In the last four matches, the left-handed batter has been in outstanding form. After scoring a fantabulous hundred in the last match against Chennai Super Kings, Dhawan went on to record another one in today’s match against Kings XI Punjab. With the hundred, he became the first one in the history of IPL to hit two back-to-back hundreds. Batting first Delhi Capitals scored 164 for the loss of five wickets against KL Rahul-led KXIP.

However, the Capitals did not have a great start and they lost the first two wickets pretty quickly within the 9th over of the innings. It was Shikhar Dhawan who led on to one side and ensured the top-order collapse did not hurt the side much. Interestingly while Dhawan scored an unbeaten 106 off 61 runs with 12 fours and three maximums, the second-highest scorers of the team are Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant with 14 each. This clearly speaks about the dominance Shikhar Dhawan had in today’s match.

Dhawan scores 5000 IPL runs

Shikhar Dhawan, once reached the score of 62 runs entered the 5000-run IPL club. He took 169 matches to achieve the milestone and only the 4th Indian to do so and 5th in the overall list. The first four in the list are David Warner in (5000+ in 135 matches), Virat Kohli (5759 in 186 matches), Suresh Raina (5468 in 183 matches), and Rohit Sharma (5149 in 196 matches).

The innings became more special for Shikhar Dhawan as exactly 10 years ago Shikhar Dhawan had played his first international match for the Indian cricket team. Ahead of today’s IPL match, Dhawan tweeted about the same as well, “10 years with Team India, 10 years playing for my country – there has been no greater honour. Representing my nation has given me memories for a lifetime, that I am always grateful for.”
