IPL 2020: Delhi Management Keen to Rest Ishant Sharma for one or two more Games

Ishant Sharma is set to skip a couple of matches as revealed by Delhi team management member to ANI. The official said that they do not like to risk Ishant so early in the season.

No Ishant Sharma for DC

Delhi Capitals speedster and Indian cricket team member Ishant Sharma suffered a back spasm ahead of the first game of the Capitals against Kings Xi Punjab at the Dubai Cricket Stadium. Delhi Capitals had to begin their campaign without Ishant Sharma and now reportedly they would like to wait for a few matches before calling him back. The management isn’t keen on rushing him back as the 13th edition of the league is at its early stage. A member of the team management spoke to ANI, “He will ideally need a little time and may miss a game or two. We will not risk Ishant and rush him into the XI so early in the season. The games have only begun and he is a vital cog going into the middle and business end of the tournament.”

He further explained, “No, it has nothing to do with returning to training after the pandemic-induced break. He had been training constantly during the break so that is not the case. Also, injuries happen to sportspersons all the time. Even a batsman can suffer spasms while batting at the nets. He was assessed immediately by the physio and necessary measures were taken.”

Capitals to play next match on Friday

Fortunately, Delhi Capitals won their first encounter of the season in the most exciting fixture of the season till now. Both sides were at par and the match went to the super over especially because of an extraordinary performance by Marcus Stoinis. The Australian first played an important inning with the bat to help Delhi set a target of 158 and then bowled a crucial last over on Sunday to take the match into super over.

In the super over Kagiso Rabada did his job and limited the target set by Punjab to just three runs. Delhi Capitals will play their next match against Chennai Super Kings on Friday in Dubai.
