IPL 2020: David Hussey and Kyle Mills join Kolkata Knight Riders

David Hussey and Kyle Mills are the big names in the KKR management after Brendon McCullum. Hussey and Mills are named as the chief mentor and as bowling coach respectively for the IPL 2020 season in an announcement on Saturday.

Hussey and Mills added to the management

Hussey represented Kolkata Knight Riders in 23 games between 2008 and 2010. His staggering T20 career saw him playing 267 matches, scoring 6097 runs and picking up 68 wickets. He also had his stints with Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. The 42-year-old’s older brother Michael Hussey is also a part of the IPL, as Chennai Super Kings’s batting coach. On the other hand, Mills played more than 200 matches across formats for New Zealand. He was primarily a limited-overs specialist and finished ended his astonishing career as New Zealand’s second-highest wicket-taker in ODI cricket with 240 scalps from 170 games just behind Daniel Vettori.

Hussey was appointed coach of the Melbourne Stars for the next edition of the Big Bash League, replacing Stephen Fleming. On the other hand, Mills was involved in coaching the bowling unit of New Zealand men’s team for a brief period in 2018.

Looking for a change

The announcement was made on Saturday and Franchise CEO Venky Mysore welcomed the duo in KKR family. He hoped that their contributions would add value to the team.”It’s great to welcome David Hussey and Kyle Mills to the Knight Riders Family. Following a fifth-place finish in IPL 2019, Knight Riders focused on a backroom revamp. They parted ways with head coach Jacques Kallis and assistant coach Simon Katich. Brendon McCullum, their former star player was appointed as the chief coach, for the Kolkata franchise as well as the owners’ team in the Caribbean Premier League, Trinbago knight Riders.
