IPL 2020: Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Risen to 14

The number of COVID-19 cases in IPL has been increased to 14. A member of the BCCI’s medical commission who is in UAE for IPL 2020 has tested positive coronavirus after the 13 infected cases of Chennai Super Kings.

The member of the medical commission who was present in the UAE for the upcoming league tested positive. Reportedly the diagnosed one is asymptomatic and has been put in quarantine. This makes the total number of new positive cases in UAE Wednesday 735. This also adds to the number of COVID-19 cases in IPL. The previous 13 positives cases from the Chennai Super Kings camp saw two players Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaekwad getting affected as well.

But fortunately, the members of CSK who had tested positive last month tested negative a couple of days ago. But everyone remains in quarantine. The rest of the team members was also sent to quarantine after the results. They continue to do so and after another test, they will be able to resume for the 13th season of Indian Premier League if the results are satisfactory.

Williamson and Hazlewood show concerns

Apart from CSK, all other teams started to practice for the upcoming league. The CSK COVID-19 cases gave birth to a set of discussion which raised apprehensions about holding the tournament. Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood, who will play for the Chennai Super Kings this season, had expressed concerns too. He will be joining his team in the UAE soon. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will be flying out to join the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Williamson told Radio New Zealand on Wednesday, “Obviously that’s bad news”. He added, “You don’t want to hear anybody (has) COVID.” Williamson further continued, “I hear they are predominantly asymptomatic, so hopefully through another lockdown period, they can come through and we’ll be okay. There’s a little bit of apprehension, certainly, as you get nearer to the time … you start thinking you do have to be extremely vigilant and disciplined.”
